Miranda

While we were driving home a few weeks ago Miranda asked me a question completely out of nowhere:

Miranda: "Mom, does Jesus love even the people who go to hell?"
Me: ". . .yes, he does. He loves everyone, even if they go to hell."
Miranda: "Ya know, I think Jesus is a pretty likeable guy."
Me: "I think you're right Miranda.  Jesus is a pretty likeable guy."

Samuel

Samuel:  "Mom how much do I need to make a dollar" (showing me 80 cents).
Me: "20 cents."
Samuel: "Can you tell me that in dime language."

I love the way Samuel describes things.  This is just one of many.  I wish I could remember more, if I do I'll try to actually write them down.

Getting Tall

Samuel: "Mom, it's morning."
Me: Yes, it is.
Samuel: Can you get up now?
Me: Yes.
Samuel: Get your glasses.
Me: Okay.
Samuel: I'll get your glasses for you. Where are they?
Me: On top of the dresser. I don't think you can reach them.
Samuel: (Handing me my glasses) Here, Mom.
Me: I didn't know you were tall enough to reach that high. How did you get them?
Samuel: I tippy-toed myself.

Snow White

On the way to school Miranda was looking at her Snow White book. She started reading/reciting/retelling the story of Snow White to Samuel. Here's how she told part of the story:

"Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the fairist of us all?"
"Her hair like ebony, her skin white as snow, her name Snow White."

(The book actually rhymes here, but I was impressed she had as many details as she did. Then she turned the page and continued. . .)

"The Queen didn't know what this meant so the mirror showed her a picture."

Picture pressure

So I needed a picture of my two kids together for a Christmas present. For some reason none of the 3 I already had worked. So I stood them next to each other, in front of an open front door to get some descent lighting, with pooring rain right behind them. After about 20 shots of me saying "Just hold still and smile already," I got this picture. I LOVE it. I, of course, won't post the others or mention that we're only like this 1/20th of the time. I'll just keep this picture and love that we did have a moment that looked like this.

Miranda's 6th Birthday

In keeping with her Halloween preference we had a pirate party complete with a treasure hunt, a pirate hat pinata, and pirate plates and napkins. Even though Miranda wanted the pirate party, she still wanted a princess cake.

I made the pinata, my very first. I have to admit that it looked pretty cute and held up well (almost too well, but the hole I left for the candy did break after about the right number of hits).

Um. . .a post. . . finally

Catching up on some (not so) recent events. . .
Miranda lost her second tooth. I keep trying to tell her that I didn't loose my 1st tooth until second grade so she needs to cut this out.

For Halloween this year Miranda wanted to be a pirate. We put together a costume mostly from things we already had or borrowed from Aunt Jana. Samuel was a ninja (a costume I bought after Halloween last year for $1--yes, I am impressed too).
